Sources tell us that A.S. got the bill for October's A.S. Safe Rides, and it's huge—a quarter of the program's annual budget. A.S. now has to scramble to find cash for the program. However, blaming Commissioner of Student Services Kian Maleki (or Kelly Vasant) would be like blaming Gray Davis for the energy crisis. A.S. underfunded the Safe Rides program by a tremendous degree on the unlikely hope that they could reduce usage: they couldn't. This is the first of what will likely be many instances of the Pae/Gallagher budget cuts catching up to the council.
