ERC Suicide Update
Follow-Ups, News

A couple of readers forwarded us this letter:

Dear Eleanor Roosevelt Students,

We are deeply saddened to inform you that a fellow ERC student, Christina "Chi" Cho, a second year resident student, passed away on campus Sunday evening. Christina's family has requested that their privacy be respected and sensitivity extended in the announcement of her passing.

To all of you who knew Christina, we extend our sincere condolences and recognize that this is a loss particularly for you but also for the entire ERC and UCSD community. Christina's family has provided the College with information regarding the viewing service scheduled for Thursday evening in Los Angeles for those of her close friends who would like to attend. You may contact the ERC Dean of Student Affairs Office to obtain this information at 534-2237.

A death of someone so young is always a tragedy and saddens us all. If any student would like to speak with a counselor regarding the impact of Christina's death in their life, we encourage you to contact Psychological & Counseling Services, 534-3755; ERC Academic Advising, 534-9864; ERC Dean of Student Affairs Office, 534-2237 or the ERC Residence Life Office, 534-2261.

We also encourage you to provide Christina's family with your support as they mourn her passing and celebrate her life.

Sincerely,
Patricia L. Scott
Dean of Student Affairs
Eleanor Roosevelt College

Additionally, a source has come forward claiming reliable information that Christina's suicide was not motivated by the stress of school but instead by the death of her boyfriend in a car accident mere days earlier. If this is true, it would invalidate my previous commentary about learning to stop and smell the roses despite UCSD's crushing course loads. Even so, my suggestions still hold true for the rest of you.

Rest in peace, Christina.
