Don't Eat the Red Snow
Gossip, News During this year's All Cal Ski & Snowboard Fest, a student from UCR stabbed a student from UCSD, slicing his brachial artery and causing him to lose approximately 12 liters of blood (hint: the human body only holds 16). More info and anecdotes in the extended. News articles can be found here, here and here, in chronological order. Our anonymous source gave us lots of little details that the papers didn't carry, and apparently the argument which led to the stabbing began because the UCSD fellow insulted the UCR kid's girlfriend. It was the night of the pub crawl and people were keeping the party alive in the SD staff cabin. The two men were arguing about the night's earlier insult when Mr. UCSD tried to throw a punch. His target fought back with a kitchen knife and got in one good cut on the underside of his arm. Rumor has it the carpet replacement (remember all that blood he lost?) cost around $11,000. As a result of the stabbing, the hotel owner wanted the All Cal group kicked out come morning, but they negotiated back to their full stay. The trip became 'dry' immediately and every individual had to pony up another $30 to hire private security for the trip. The total security bill was $16,000. (Apparently no one ever saw a single security guard, however.) Our source says that two nights after the lock down the trip was back to normal again, meaning lots of drinking and general tomfoolery. The All Cal Ski & Snowboard Fest is 52 years old and it sounds like this incident has terminated plans for any future trips. Additionally, our source speculated that the "ski/snowboard club is probably over." He and I both are disheartened that such a great tradition full of what college should be all about (sex, booze and recreation, for the record) could be shattered by one bad seed. Also, I liked this quote: "Alcohol is clearly suspected," said Mountain Village Police Chief Dale Wood. No fucking shit, buddy. Why didn't we get at least several emails of this juicy tidbit? Because you're all assholes, that's why. C'mon people, we can't be everywhere at once. We need your eyes and ears. Nom de Guerre, Jan 10 2005, 01:11 AMPost a Comment Thanks for signing in, .
