Nothing New About the New Frontier
Rants I picked up a copy of the New Frontier yesterday. It made me sad. The New Frontier, if you didn't know, is the new liberal newspaper entering the print spectrum opposite the (comically) conservative California Review. Calling it the Yin to the California Review's Yang makes even more sense because they're both so amateur. Someone gave Adobe PageMaker to a couple clans of warring six-year-olds and the result we face now is more garbage strewn across campus. I blame the California Review for setting the bar so goddamn low. Plus, all those stupid, color-coded bracelets suck. I hope those things make you all sterile. Tools. Nom de Guerre, Mar 01 2005, 09:47 AMwhile the layout admittedly needs work, it's a hell of a lot better first issue than, oh, the cal review's latest after being around for years. give them credit for trying to produce an actual newspaper in that format, instead of the crappy stapled booklets the Cal has become. While the Cal Review has actually consistently gone down in quality, I foresee the New Frontier only improving. granted, neither paper, nor the Guardian, match the quality of the Repeater or the consistency of UCLA's Daily Bruin. as for those wristbands, eh, give the Dem's some credit for marketing, making a nice profit-margin while the "circle-jerk of freedom" is too busy with their little coups and failed attempts at getting on A.S. (New Wave in '02, Sun God this year— give me a break). on March 1, 2005 06:28 PM
"Photo courtesy of the Internet." That's the sound of Gutenberg rolling over in his grave. And I stand firm on the bracelets. on March 1, 2005 07:48 PM
I agree with ndg. It was riddled with spelling errors, nevermind grammar and other logical errors. I mean, common, the spell checker isn't exactly new technology. Although the Cal Review is incredibly stupid (they claimed the war on Iraq is good because it helps protect the Saudi royal family!), the New Frontier, as a propaganda machine of the Dems, probably won't deliver anything new or insightful beyond the daily mudslinging. on March 1, 2005 09:11 PM
it's a first issue… if the second has the same problems, no defense from me. (and, note, the daily bruin is consistant, but i'm not saying anything about its quality) on March 1, 2005 11:59 PM
